Degree student stabbed to death in his house in Kollam

A degree student was killed in what the police described as a “crime of passion” in Kollam late Monday.

The State police identified the dead as Febin George Gomas, a student of the Fathima College, Kollam.

The police said the assailant arrived in front of Gomas’s house at Uliyakovil around 7.30 p.m.

According to the police, the assailant entered the house, stabbed Gomas’s father and then assaulted the student. The police counted several fatal injuries on Gomas’s body.

Later, the police discovered a body on the railway track near Neendakara. They later identified him as Tejas Raj and did not rule out the possibility that he was Gomas’s killer.

The police found a bloodstained knife near the railway track. They said forensic examination would determine whether it was the murder weapon.

City Police Commissioner Kiran Narayanan, who inspected the crime scene, termed the incident as a “crime of passion”.

She told reporters that it was tragic that some youngsters had scarce value for life and were easily provoked into lethal action. Ms. Narayan said the police were probing the reasons for the crime and if anyone else was involved.

The police said the condition of Gomas’s father, who is in intensive care for stab injuries, was currently stable. Neighbours, who spoke to television channel reporters, expressed shock at the turn of events and described Gomas as a youngster who largely kept to himself and stayed clear of conflicts.
