A family of five members – a couple and their three daughters – was found dead in their locked house in Sohail Garden, Lisadi Gate area of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Thursday evening.

According to police, the victims – Moin, a mechanic by profession, and his wife Asma had been missing since Wednesday. Apart from the couple, their daughters Afsa (8), Aziza (4) and Adiba (1) were also found dead in a 70-square-yard rented house in which they shifted around 45 days ago.

Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada informed that a team of cops immediately rushed to the spot upon receiving a call about a locked house. The cops were alerted by Moin’s neighbours who suspected something unusual.

Bodies of children stuffed in bed box

After arriving at the location, the cops found the house locked from outside. They then went to the roof from where they got access inside the house, Tada said.

As per the Meerut SSP, Moin’s legs were found tied with a bedsheet. His wife’s body was found lying on the ground, while the bodies of their children were hidden in a bed box.

“It seems like they had been hit on the head with a blunt object. The cause of their death will be known once the post-mortem report comes,” a report by ANI quoted Tada as saying.

House in disarray

Visuals from the crime scene showed the house in complete disarray and the bodies lying close to each other. According to a report by IndiaToday, the body of the youngest child was found stuffed in a sack inside the bed box.

Old enmity behind Meerut family’s death?

The SSP further said that the manner in which the house was locked suggests that the individual involved in the crime may have been someone known to the family.

A report by PTI quoted Tada as saying that the preliminary investigations point towards an old enmity as the possible motive behind the incident. “A detailed investigation is underway,” he added.

Police have cordoned off the area and have set up a security perimeter to preserve evidence. Meanwhile, a forensic team and senior officers are at the crime site collecting evidence.

Relatives, neighbours, and others who could possibly provide leads on the motive behind the gruesome murders are being probed by the investigators.

The cops are also investigating the background of the family who had recently moved to the area, Tada said.
