Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, IT and Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday laid foundation for four manufacturing projects to be established with ₹3,225 crore investment at Telangana government’s Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district.

Battery maker Amara Raja’s Giga Factory-1; LFP-CAM Giga factory of Altmin; critical minerals refining and battery recycling plant of Lohum Materials; and Scell Energy’s cell casing manufacturing plant are the four projects.

Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, elected representatives and officials participated in the programme. Telangana government has set up the cluster in Divitipally under the EMC-2.0 Scheme to give impetus to electronics manufacturing.

Mr. Vaishnaw said battery technology is as essential for India’s economy as steel and chemicals. He said the Centre is committed to all-round growth of the sector as well as Divitipally region. The Divitipally railway station will be modernised, he said, pointing out that railway budgetary allocation for Telangana has risen manifold under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The allocation in 2025-26 Budget is ₹5,337 crore for Telangana, a sharp increase from the ₹886 crore ten years ago for the united Andhra Pradesh State.

Giga Corridor

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) entered into an MoU with Telangana government in 2022 for the Amara Raja Giga Corridor, where it will establish lithium cell and battery pack manufacturing facilities with 16 GWh and 5GWh capacities respectively for both domestic and international markets. The project is expected to create direct employment for 4,500 people and an equal number of indirect jobs, a release from the organisers of the programme said.

“We are looking to be amongst the first companies in India to present an indigenously manufactured Lithium-Ion cell to the nation,” Amara Raja Energy and Mobility CMD Jayadev Galla said.

Mr. Sridhar Babu’s office said Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies plans to invest ₹9,852 crore over ten years on facilities across 262 acres. While two units are under construction, the third unit, worth ₹1,900 crore, has now been launched. Altmin, which specialises in Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery technology, is setting up ₹800 crore facility on 20 acres. The plant is to be completed in two phases over three years and generate 300 jobs. Lohum Materials is setting up a waste processing facility on 20 acres with ₹502 crore. Designed to process 1.25 million tonnes of waste annually, the facility will be built in two phases over five years and employ 120 people. Scell Energy is into manufacturing steel cans and caps for lithium-ion cells and its project in Divitipally will span six acres, generate 150 jobs and entail an investment of ₹23 crore.

Central support sought

Reaffirming State government’s commitment to investors and thanking industries for reposing confidence in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership, Mr. Sridhar Babu urged the Centre to extend support for Telangana’s industrial development, particularly assistance to foster the growth of semiconductor sector.
