HC asks govt. to file probe status report over Nerella violence case

Additional Advocate General Mohammed Imran Khan on Thursday sought two weeks’ time from the Telangana High Court to file a report on the status of investigation into the alleged torture of youngsters belonging to dalit and backward class communities in Nerella of Siricilla district, reported in 2017.

A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, hearing two PIL petitions over Nerella torture case, sought clarifications from the government counsel about issuing of First Information Report and filing of charge-sheet in the matter. While Gaddam Laxman of Civil Liberties Committee filed one PIL plea, the other was filed by retired judge of High Court Justice B. Chandra Kumar. The AAG assured the bench to secure instructions in the matter. The hearing was adjourned to February 4.

Appeal dismissed

Telangana High Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal petition filed by Spectrum Power General Limited challenging a trial court order denying insurance payment for business interruption losses claimed by the company.

A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, pronouncing verdict, said the trial court had examined all relevant records and correctly interpreted the insurance policy related parameters.

FTL of water bodies

A final notification fixing the Full Tank Level of 57 more water bodies in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, addition to the 708 lakes, was issued by the government, the Advocate General office informed Telangana High Court on Thursday.

Special Government Pleader G. Sridhar Reddy, attached to AG’s office, informed the bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J. Sreenivas Rao that a preliminary notification was issued earlier with regard to 2,793 water bodies out of the 3,342 water bodies fixing the FTL.

Officials of the government wings had undertaken substantial work over fixing FTL of the remaining lakes. The progress of the work completed so far would be informed to the bench by February 4 to which the matter was posted.

The bench was hearing a suo moto take up writ petition over encroachment of areas within FTL of different water bodies in HMDA jurisdiction.
