Importance of inter-disciplinary approaches in field of research highlighted

Eminent critic and Dravidian University former registrar B. Tirupati Rao emphasised the need for transition from the traditional to modern and post modern strategies in pursuing literature in view of the changing attitude and reading habits of the public from time to time.

In his keynote address at the PM USHA-sponsored national seminar on ‘Recent disciplinary trends towards social transformation’ organised by Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam’s (SPMVV) Department of English here on Friday, he focused on the importance of inter-disciplinary approaches in the field of research and higher education. Prof. Rao also explained the importance of critical theories to be applied in analysing the literary texts.

An interesting plenary session was held under the title ‘Meet the author Madhurantakam Narendra’, in which the participants interacted with the Sahitya Akademi awardee about his award winning novel ‘Manodharma Paragam’ on Devadasi system.

SPMVV School of Social Sciences dean in-charge P. Vijayalakshmi, PM USHA coordinator C. Vani released the proceedings of the seminar published as a special issue. Convener Y.S. Sharada and co-convener V. Nirmala also spoke.
