Anantapur police on Tuesday arrested a three-member inter-state gang and seized gold jewellery worth ₹22 lakh and a car from their possesion.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh said that the kingpin of the gang, Shaik Khaja Peera alias Khaja of Dharmavaram town in Sri Sathya Sai district, was earlier involved in 27 property offences.
The police inform that Mr. Khaja was a painter by profession, but desperate for money to feed his family, he fell into crime since 2021 targeting locked houses. He committed 14 property offences in Andhra Pradesh, nine in Karnataka and four in Telangana.
Mr. Jagadeesh said that Mr. Khaja was arrested and was in prison till March this year, however, after being released, he formed a gang with Mahesh and Jameer, both belonging to Dharmavaram, and committed 10 property offences in Anantapur district and four in Kolar of Karnataka.
Explaining the modus operandi, Mr. Jagadeesh said that the trio rented a car and searched for locked houses. “While Mr. Khaja drives the vehicle, Mr. Mahesh and Mr. Jameer observe and identify locked houses. Mr. Khaja alone enters the house and commits the offence,’‘ the SP said.
Following a series of house break-ins, the Central Crime Station sleuths formed special teams to nab the accused. The three were arrested near a private function hall on Kalyandurg road on specific information.
