Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the police not to play mute spectator to the deteriorating law and order situation in the State and warned that they have to pay the price for their wrongdoings.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday consoled the bereaved family members of Kuruba Lingamaiah, who was allegedly murdered by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists in Ramagiri mandal of Raptadu Assembly constituency in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Speaking to media after consoling the family members of Lingamaiah, the YSRCP chief alleged that the TDP president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been trying to grab the local bodies where his party does not have the required numbers by threatening, coercive methods, and even using the police.
Though the TDP has just one member against YSRCP’s nine in Ramagiri mandal, the ruling party tried to threaten MPTCs and win the election, he said. “When the elected representatives did not yield to their threats and moved the court, the TDP threatened them through using the local police while the convoy was coming to vote and deliberately delayed the process. The MPTC members were later taken to Penukonda and YSRCP leaders questioned, cases were imposed on them,’’ Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the TDP unleashed attacks on the YSRCP cadre, during which Lingamaiah was beaten to death. He said cases were registered against two persons only, while nearly 20 persons were behind the attack.
Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy said that YSRCP leaders were attacked at various places in Nandyal, Mahanandi, Pedakurupadu and others. “The TDP is using police and unleashing terror, but this phase will not continue forever. Days will change and all those who are responsible for the atrocities will have to bear the brunt in the coming days and police should stop playing the spectators role,” he said.
