The State police chief transferred two cases pertaining to the fracas at the Suvarna Soudha, Belagavi, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday.Â
The first case is the one booked against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC C.T. Ravi for calling Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar a derogatory word inside the Council. He has been booked under Sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was arrested in the case by the Belagavi police and was released on interim bail by the High Court of Karnataka.Â
Meanwhile, Mr. Ravi lodged a complaint alleging he was attacked by supporters of Ms. Hebbalkar in the Suvarna Soudha, and said they threatened to kill him. Over 10 persons have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita including unlawful assembly, rioting, wrongful restraint, breach of peace, and criminal intimidation. This case has also been transferred to the CID.Â
