The 40th annual conference of the Mahatma Gandhi University Employees Association will be held on April 8 and 9 on the university campus. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member A. Vijayaraghavan will inaugurate the event.
In a statement here on Saturday, the association noted that the conference was being held at a time when the constitutional values such as socialism, secularism, democracy, and federalism were facing growing threats. It accused the Union government of attempting to saffronise universities and implement a Hindutva agenda through national policies like the National Education Policy and institutions like the University Grants Commission.
It praised the Kerala government for its proactive interventions which have contributed to the improved national and international rankings of Kerala’s universities, including Mahatma Gandhi University.
The conference will feature a public meeting, delegate sessions, and cultural programmes. Minister for Cooperation and Devaswom V.N. Vasavan will inaugurate the delegates’ meet on April 8 afternoon. Leaders from various university staff and teachers’ organisations across the State will attend.
