The City Cyber Crime Police on Friday arrested a 28-year-old man, allegedly part of a Cambodia-based online trading scam group, on charges of defrauding a city resident of over ₹2 crore. The accused has been identified as K. Manu, a native of Thirurangadi in Malappuram district. He was nabbed when he arrived from Cambodia at Tiruchirappalli airport in Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, the accused used to befriend people on Instagram, offering stock market trading tips. After gaining their trust, he would allegedly proceed to install fake applications offering stock marketing service to make his victims transfer money. The alleged fraud for which he was arrested happened in June 2024. He used to carry out the operation from a call centre in Cambodia.
