Muhammad Abdul Hakkim Azhari Kanthapuram, State general secretary of the Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS), has suggested that appointing individuals from outside active political parties to the position of Governor could help alleviate conflicts between State governments and Governors. He expressed this view during a spiritual meeting held as part of the Kerala Youth Conference of the SYS here on Thursday.
Mr. Azhari emphasised that India possesses numerous talented individuals who could bring honour to such constitutional positions. He further noted that the Constitution does not mandate the appointment of individuals solely from political parties.
The meeting was presided over by Sayyid Fazal Thangal, district president of the Kerala Muslim Jamaat, and inaugurated by P.S.K. Moithu Baqavi, district secretary of the Samastha.
The SYS Kerala Youth Conference will commence on Friday with an inaugural address by American scholar Yahya Rhodes. Indian Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmed also delivered a keynote address. The conference, with 10,000 permanent delegates, will feature a civil rights conference on Saturday evening, and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Harris Beeran, MP, will deliver a speech at the conference.
