The Shivamogga police have arrested 13 people in connection with the robbery reported at Uttaradi Mutt in Mahishi village of Tirthahalli taluk.
A group of 15 people allegedly decamped with ₹50,000 in cash and other valuables after assaulting the priest and others at the Mutt on April 5.
Shivamogga Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar, in a press conference on Friday, said that the group entered the Mutt on April 5 at around 9.45 p.m. and assaulted Kumar Acharya, the priest and manager of the Mutt, and others. The accused were under the impression that huge cash was available at the Mutt. They assaulted the staff and robbed their mobile phones and a laptop belonging to the Mutt. They also damaged the CCTV cameras and decamped with the digital video recorder.
The Malur police registered the case. During the investigation, they succeeded in arresting Suresh, Sathish, Pruthviraj, Srikanth, Abhilash, Bharat, Pavan, Ramesh, Naveen, Darshan, and Karibasappa.
Besides them, the police also took Srinivas, another accused, into custody after shooting at him near Shikaripur on April 10, as he allegedly tried to escape after assaulting a policeman.
The police are making efforts to arrest those who are still absconding. They seized a tempo traveller, a car, and lethal weapons that the accused used to commit the crime.
