The Special Mobile Squad (SMS) of the Wayanad police has taken a man into custody in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a tribal woman in Thirunelli. The team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (SMS) M.M. Abdul Kharim has taken into custody Varghese, a resident of Thirunelly, based on the complaint by a woman from the Panavally Tribal Settlement that she was abused over a period of one year by the accused exploiting her state of mental instability, and in the name of black magic.
The DySP told The Hindu that the woman was yet to undergo medical examination and that the arrest of Mr.Varghese could not be recorded until the medical reports were available. The SMS is a special squad that investigates cases related to scheduled tribes in Wayanad.
