In the Union Budget 2025-26, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojna’ for farmers.

The scheme would be run in partnership with states in 100 districts with low productivity and around 1.7 crore farmers would be covered, said Sitharaman.

The objective of the scheme is to create opportunities in rural areas so that migration is an option and not a necessity, said Sitharaman.

Under the scheme, Nafed and NCCF will procure pulses from farmers.

Speaking further about agriculture, Sitharaman made the following announcements:

  • National mission for edible oil and seeds

  • A six-year mission to become self-reliant in pulses

  • Makhana board to be set up in Bihar to improve processing and value addition

The ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojna’ will be on the lines of the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018, which is currently run in 112 districts.
