A series of road mishaps reported over Saturday (January 19) night claimed six lives and left four others injured in different parts of Hyderabad and Nirmal.
In the first incident, two pilgrims were killed, and three others were injured when their car overturned near Burugupalli in Mamada mandal. Police identified the deceased as Vijay Kumar Neema (57), a trader, and S. Sumita (53), both from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
The accident occurred when their car, bearing the registration MP 22 CA 4588, lost control and turned turtle at a curve. Relatives of the deceased, Nithin, Anitha and Sudhir Niranjan, suffered injuries and are being treated at a hospital in Nirmal; their condition was said to be stable. Police suspect overspeeding to be the cause of the accident. The group was en route to the Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam.
In a separate incident at Kanchanbagh, two men died, and another sustained severe injuries after their motorcycle collided with barricades placed carelessly on the road. The victims, C. Sai Akhil (22), from B.N. Reddy Nagar and P. Madhu (24), from Karmanghat, were riding triple with their friend Shiva Kumar when their bike, allegedly overspeeding, hit the barricades near a school in Kanchanbagh.
On falling, they struck the cement blocks of the road divider. Akhil and Madhu were declared dead at a hospital. Shiva Kumar remains under treatment. None of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, said the Kanchanbagh police.
A third accident claimed the life of a farmer, V. Venkataiah (55), in Kandukur on Saturday night. Police said Venkataiah’s vehicle skidded and threw him onto a large stone, injuring him fatally on the head. The incident occurred while he was traveling on Kandukur Road.
In the fourth mishap, a 29-year-old software engineer, J. Yashwanth Kumar, died after a lorry hit his motorcycle at Shivaji Chowk in Balapur. The accident occurred early Sunday (January 19) morning around 2:30 a.m. The lorry driver was attempting a U-turn and collided with Yashwanth’s motorcycle. The impact injured him fatally on the head. The Balapur police registered a case against the driver of the lorry.
