SP seeks community collaboration to combat drug abuse, cyber crimes in Sri Sathya Sai district

SP V. Ratna addressing the Mega Parent Teachers’ meeting at Dharmavaram in Sri Sathya Sai district on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Ratna on Saturday urged educators, parents, and students to collaboratively combat the pervasive issue of drug abuse.

Addresing the Mega Parent Teachers’ meet at BSR Government Girls High School in Dharmavaram, Mr. Ratna unveiled a series of posters aimed at raising awareness regarding drug abuse, online fraud, and cyber crimes, as part of a police initiative titled ‘No Drugs Bro’.

The SP highlighted the vulnerability of youth, specifically toward ganja addiction, and to combat this crisis, the State government has established an anti-drug task force named Eagle. The task force will be deployed within each district, to trace and curb individuals involved in the facilitation, transportation, and consumption of drugs, as these actors are pivotal to the drug distribution network. A toll-free hotline, 1972, has been established to enable anonymous reporting of ganja cultivation, illegal transportation, sales, and usage.

She advised parents to consistently monitor their children’s activities to ensure regular school attendance and advocated for initiating changes within government schools. She underscored the importance of responsible use of cell phones and urged parents to supervise internet usage.

Given the rising incidence of cyber crimes, she stressed the necessity for parental vigilance to protect children from becoming targets of cybercriminals. Clear guidance regarding scams associated with loan applications was also provided.

Ms. Ratna reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the physical, mental, and moral development of children. Senior officials from the departments of education, revenue, ICDS, and social welfare were present at the meeting.
