The Directorate of Technical Education will organise Udyama 1.0, an industry academia government conclave, in Thiruvananthapuram from December 7 to 10.
The event will serve as a precursor to the government’s international conclave on higher education, Udyama 2.0, slated to be held in January next.
Higher Education Minister R. Bindu will formally inaugurate the four-day event at the Tagore Theatre. General Education and Labour Minister V. Sivankutty will preside over the inaugural session, and former All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman Anil D. Sahasrabuddhe will be the chief guest.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will unveil a draft vision document, compiled during the conclave, at the valedictory session on December 10. The document will guide the technical education sector of Kerala in the next decade.
Dr. Bindu, who addressed the media here, said Udyama 1.0 aims to modernise the curricula of technical courses to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. The conclave will explore ways to bridge the gap between industry requirements and education through collaboration and innovation.
The conference will gather technologists, educators, student representatives, and industry leaders to work towards integrating a world-class curriculum in Kerala’s educational system. The government also intended to explore diasporic engagements in its efforts, she added.
A series of 16 expert-led sessions will be held during the conclave, focusing on future-aligned technical education, industry academia collaboration, emerging cutting-edge technology, new age industries, integrating traditional industries into the technical education ecosystem, and job opportunities. Over 400 teachers from engineering and polytechnic colleges across Kerala are expected to participate.
In conjunction with the conclave, an exhibition showcasing innovative research products developed by students will be organised at the CSI Women’s Centre Auditorium, LMS Compound from December 7 to 9. Cultural programmes showcasing the talents of students will also be held at the Tagore Theatre and the CSI Women’s Centre Auditorium.
