A 22-year-old tribal youth was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Polanna near Kollivayal under the Chethalayath forest range of the South Wayanad Forest Division on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Vishnu, 22, son of Raja of Iruppedu Kattunayakka tribal hamlet in Coorg district,  Karnataka.

An elephant attacked Vishnu while he was returning to Karnataka from the Kollivayal tribal hamlet near Pulpally after visting his relatives through a forest path in Pathiri reserve forest, said Forest department sources.
