Four persons were killed on the spot and another sustained injuries when a pick-up vehicle by which they were travelling hit a roadside culvert near Amarapur village in Deodurga taluk of Raichur district early on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Nagaraj, Soma, Nagabhushan, and Murali — all in the 35-50 age group. Anand, driver of the vehicle, who suffered injuries has been shifted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Raichur.
According to the police, all of them were from different villages in Hindupur mandal of Andhra Pradesh. They were going to Shahapur in Yadgir district from Hindupur to purchase sheep.
The accident occurred between 2 a.m. and 2.30 a.m.; it is suspected that the driver could have dozed off, resulting in the accident.
A case has been registered at the Gabbur police station. The police shifted the bodies to RIMS.
