JD(S) demands water release for second crop in Raichur district

Spread the News

A procession under the leadership of Janata Dal(S) State youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy and the former Minister Venkatrao Nadagouda was taken out in Sindhanur on Tuesday demanding that the State government provide water for a second crop such as paddy and jowar in Raichur district.

The procession began at the Kote Eranna Temple and concluded at APMC Gunj in the city.

Addressing a gathering of farmers and party workers, Nikhil Kumaraswamy said that the Congress government has done nothing for the welfare of farmers in the State, particularly in the district.

Farmers in the district are expecting water for their second crop to get a good yield. If the State government fails to release water for their second crop, it should release a compensation of ₹50,000 per acre and waive loans that they have availed of, he said.

He said that the State government should announce ₹500 over the minimum support price fixed for paddy, as the neighbouring Telangana government is providing an additional ₹500 to its farmers.

Party legislators, leaders and several hundred farmers from various parts of the district participated in the procession.
