Honorary president of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha (KRRS) Chamaras Malipatil has urged the State government to release compensation to farmers whose crops have been damaged in the recent rain accompanied by strong winds in Raichur district.
He was addressing a press conference in Raichur on Sunday.
Mr. Malipatil said that unseasonal rain accompanied by gusty winds has caused extensive damage to standing crops, mainly paddy, in Manvi, Sindhanur and Lingsugur taluks and other parts of the district.
“Paddy, which was in the final stages of yield, has been damaged by rain and wind. The State government should direct the Revenue and other departments concerned to conduct proper and accurate crop loss assessment and based on crop damage report, it should release at least ₹25,000 per acre as compensation without any delay,” he stressed.
He said that the State government has a norm saying that crop damage compensation will be released if damage assessed is more than 33% but, this is not justifiable. The State government should revise its parameters on crop damage percentage and release compensation on the quantity of crop loss, he added.
Budayya Swamy, Amaresh Aldal, Lingareddy and Narasimhalu were present.
