Photos: Rekha, SiddappaRaichur: A five-month pregnant woman was allegedly murdered by her father-in-law following a family dispute at Chikkahanagi village of Sirwar taluk on Jan 28.Police said the accused, Siddappa, 50, allegedly attacked his daughter-in-law Rekha, 23, with a knife, stabbing her in the neck and face before fleeing. Severely injured, Rekha managed to rushed out of the house seeking help, but collapsed and died, locals said.Rekha had married Nagaraj three years ago. While relations were cordial initially, disputes reportedly began within six months over agricultural and household work. Due to frequent quarrels, the couple briefly moved to Hirehanagi village to live separately.After Rekha became pregnant, her in-laws persuaded the couple to return to Chikkahanagi, but old tensions resurfaced, leading to frequent arguments. One such quarrel allegedly escalated on Jan 28, and Siddappa attacked her in a fit of rage, police said.Rekha’s parents lodged a complaint against Siddappa, her husband Nagaraj and her mother-in-law Basamma at Kavital police station. SP Arunangshu Giri and other police officers visited the spot. Siddappa has been taken into custody, and further investigation is under way.
