As part of a nationwide initiative to evaluate the preparedness of various State agencies in handling emergency situations, particularly in the event of terrorist attacks, the South Central Railway (SCR) conducted a comprehensive civil defence mock drill at the Raichur Railway Station on Wednesday.
A dedicated team of 32 members from the Civil Defence Organisation of SCR, along with supporting staff from the local railway station, actively participated in the 45-minute exercise, which commenced at 4 p.m.
The drill was designed to assess the readiness of personnel in responding swiftly and effectively to crisis situations.
The demonstration simulated a series of realistic emergency scenarios, including the activation of an air raid warning siren, evacuation of passengers and staff, handling of unexploded bombs, firefighting, providing timely and effective first aid and transportation of injured individuals without stretchers.
It included crowd management techniques and tested the team’s ability to make quick decisions and coordinate efficiently under high-pressure conditions.
The exercise underscored the critical importance of preparedness and seamless coordination among different agencies in ensuring the safety of both passengers and railway staff during emergencies.
Officials present at the drill commended the Civil Defence team for their professionalism and emphasised the need for regular training exercises to enhance the confidence and effectiveness of frontline responders.
“We are part of the South Central Railway Civil Defence Wing which has a dedicated team of volunteers. As per the directions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, we conducted the civil defence mock drill at Raichur Railway Station today. Under the SCR, similar drills were conducted at Kacheguda and Aurangabad railway stations also,” Civil Defence Emergency Officer of SCR K. Sudarshan Reddy told media representatives after the exercise.
He added that the purpose of these exercises is to test the ability of teams to respond to emergencies such as bomb attacks and to raise public awareness about how to handle such situations effectively.
