Raichur: In a tragic incident, three members of a family died while three others are undergoing treatment after reportedly consuming contaminated food at home. The incident occurred early Tuesday at K Thimmapura village in Raichur district, Karnataka.
The deceased have been identified as Ramesh (38) and his two daughters, Nagaratna (8) and Deepa. Ramesh’s wife Padma, their son, and another daughter are currently being treated at RIMS Hospital, Raichur.
According to relatives, the family had dinner on Monday night–eating roti, cluster beans curry, and sambar–and went to sleep. Their health deteriorated during the night. At around 5:30 am, villagers rushed them to the Lingasugur public hospital, where Ramesh and his daughters were declared dead. The remaining three were shifted to RIMS Hospital for further treatment.
District Surgeon Dr Vijayashankar of RIMS Hospital confirmed to ETV Bharat over the phone that three people had died and three others were being treated. “The patients are now recovering. Post-mortem will be conducted at RIMS mortuary, and food samples are being sent to the Bellary Forensic Lab. The exact cause of death will be known after the reports arrive,” he said.
Pesticide Suspected
Family members suspect that cluster beans from their field–on which pesticides had been recently sprayed–might have caused the tragedy. Authorities are investigating whether pesticide contamination led to the sudden deaths.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Kavithal Police Station. Food Department officials have visited the spot and collected samples for investigation.
