Raichur: The University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur is set to hold its 14th convocation on May 26 at 11am in the university auditorium, as announced by vice-chancellor M Hanumanthappa.The institution will confer 488 degrees across various academic levels.During a press interaction on Saturday, he informed that governor and chancellor Thaawar Chand Gehlot will preside over the ceremony alongside agriculture minister N Cheluvarayaswamy. Pankaja Mittal, general secretary of the Federation of Universities in New Delhi, will deliver the convocation address.The vice-chancellor detailed that the 14th convocation will see 352 bachelor’s degrees, 136 master’s degrees, and 39 doctorate degrees being awarded. The female graduates comprise 152 bachelor’s degrees, 62 master’s degrees, and 19 doctorate degrees. Additionally, 27 female bachelor’s degree recipients will receive gold medals, and two will be presented with cash prizes.Since its inception, the university created 597 technologies. The 2022-2023 period witnessed several developments, including the introduction of GNV-1109, a nutrient-fortified rice variety designed to combat malnutrition. The period also saw the launch of new varieties: HBR-2 in pea and ICRC-1 in groundnut.The university received national recognition for its oilseed research project, winning the ‘best organized research project’ award. The College of Agricultural Technology, Raichur, was recognised with the ‘best technical education’ award for 2023 by the Institute of Agricultural Technical Technicians, New Delhi, according to the VC.
