D Gukesh vs Ding Liren, World Chess Championship 2024 LIVE Updates: Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh starts his quest for a chess world title on Monday as he faces China’s Ding Liren in the first match of the
World Chess Championship 2024 at the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. The first match of the World Championship will start at 2.30 PM IST. The World Championship
will include 14 classical games and the first player to reach 7.5 points will clinch the chess world title. If the Championship ends in a draw then a tie-breaker will be employed to find the winner.
D Gukesh eyes history in World Chess Championship
Ding Liren won the World Chess Championship by beating Ian Nepomniachtchi and is the first chess world champion from China. While the 32-year-old Liren is looking to retain his title, Gukesh is looking to become the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand
to win the World Chess Championship. Gukesh has been in sensational form in 2024, having
won the FIDE Candidates at the record age of 17 and helped India win a historic gold in the 45th Chess Olympiad.
If Gukesh wins the World Chess Championship, he will become the youngest ever to hold the chess world title at the age of 18. Liren, meanwhile, has been struggling for form, having last won a classical game in January 2024. However, he has a head-to-head edge over Gukesh, having won two classical games and drawn the other one against the Indian Grandmaster.
The Chess World Championship will be live-streamed on FIDE’s YouTube account and the second match will take place on 26 November (Tuesday)
