India plans to host Commonwealth Games 2030 after making Olympics bid: Report – Firstpost

With India officially making a bid to host the 2026 Olympics, the country is aiming to host multiple high-profile events to prepare itself for the mega Games. India are reportedly planning to bid for Commonwealth Games 2030 hosting rights.

India is aiming to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games which will be the centenary edition of the multi-sport event. Hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030, 20 years after they hosted it for the first time, will be the perfect preparation that India who also hope to host the 2036 Olympics. India has already submitted the
Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee for hosting the 2036 Olympics.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president Chris Jenkins and chief executive Katie Sadlier were recently in India and held talks with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha over the possibility of India hosting the 20230 Commonwealth Games, the Indian Express reported.

CWG 2030 could be held in Ahmedabad if India wins bid

The report further added that if India wins the bid for the 2030 Games, it could be held in Ahmedabad while Bhubaneswar is also in the race. In 2010, the Commonwealth Games was entirely held in Delhi.

CGF president Jenkins and CEO Sadlier reportedly were in Gandhinagar, Bhubaneswar and New Delhi last week as they held discussions with state and central government ministers. They also checked out venues in Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar besides attending the National Games opening ceremony in Dehradun.

“CGF President Chris Jenkins was recently invited to attend the opening ceremony of the National Games in India, taking this opportunity to continue to strengthen ties between India, Commonwealth Games India, and Commonwealth Sport. The CGF recently put out the call for Expressions of Interest for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and beyond, and, during his visit to India, President Jenkins had some informal chats around this process,” CGF told Indian Express in a statement.

“They were quite impressed, there are no two ways about it. The preparation here is on an Olympic scale, so there were no concerns over the venues,” an official said.

The deadline to submit an official Expression of Interest (EOI) for hosting the 2030 CWG reportedly ends on 31 March.
