‘Highly aggressive’: Greenland PM condemns planned visit by Usha Vance, Trump adviser | World News

As White House announced a cultural visit of Second Lady Usha Vance to Greenland, the country’s Prime Minister Mute Egede condemned the plans for high-profile US visits, and termed it as “highly aggressive” as US President Donald Trump has threatened to annex the Danish territory.

According to a statement by the White House, Usha, who is the wife of US Vice President JD Vance, would be travelling to Greenland this week to witness a race on the island and “celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity”.

Apart from Second Lady Vance, the Trump administration is also expected to send National Security Adviser Mike Waltz on a separate trip. Greenland’s PM Egede called the plan aggressive and said that Usha and Mike have not been invited for meetings.

Greenland, which is the world’s largest island, has been under the control of Denmark for about 300 years and is situated between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans.

Greenland’s PM Egede, during an interview with newspaper Sermitsiaq on Sunday said “What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”

Egede added “His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission and the pressure will increase,” CNN reported.

During an earlier conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, US President Trump had escalated his campaign to annex the island with the support of NATO.

Greenland, which was reportedly in a defensive mode due to Trump’s renewed demands of taking over the island, was met with further shockwaves when Trump implied that he would take NATO’s aid in annexing it. Interestingly, Denmark is also part of the military alliance.

“You know, Mark, we need that for international security…we have a lot of our favourite players cruising around the coast, and we have to be careful,” Trump had said.
