With each passing day in the Israel-Hamas war, people are losing their trust in the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu-led government.
A recent poll by Channel 12 shows that only 22 per cent of people have confidence in the Israeli government with 29 per cent expressing trust in Netanyahu.
However, people are more likely to put their faith in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with 75 per cent of the respondents saying they trust them. Meanwhile, only 47 per cent of people have expressed confidence in IDF Chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi. Doing worse than Halevi is Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz at just 24 per cent.
Pollsters also asked respondents how they define victory in the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip – 68 per cent say victory will only be achieved with the return of all the hostages and 12 per cent believe it will mean the annexation of Gaza and the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over the Strip.
Four per cent define victory as border residents returning to their homes, while 8 per cent say it would involve the establishment of a moderate Palestinian leadership in Gaza other than Hamas.
On the war front
Meanwhile, Israel’s military said Saturday it had failed to intercept a “projectile” launched from Yemen that landed near Tel Aviv, with the national medical service saying three people were lightly wounded.
“Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in central Israel, one projectile launched from Yemen was identified and unsuccessful interception attempts were made,” the Israeli military said on its Telegram channel.
In return, Israel has struck multiple targets in Yemen – including ports and energy facilities in areas controlled by the Huthis.
“A short time ago, reports were received of a weapon falling in one of the settlements within the Tel Aviv district,” Israel’s police said Saturday.
Israel’s emergency medical service said three people had been taken to hospital with light injuries and several others treated near the scene – including for shock.
